Bags and Books

Oh Hi! Hope everything is nice in your town. It is ridiculously hot here, and only just Spring.
This time last year we were preparing for our big holiday to Scotland.
This year we'll be here for the whole of Summer.

Yarning along with Ginny at Small Things again today.
I'm making another bag for a friend for Christmas. This wool is quite chunky, and the bag has a different shape to the others I've made.

On the reading front I'm reading this...

(sorry have just realised the photo has cropped the author name- it's Marieke Hardy)

Bit of a difficult book to review- the best I can do is: It's not for the faint-hearted, and it made me laugh so hard I could not read it in public. It made me laugh so hard I wanted to ring people and force them to read it. I wanted to read people excerpts. Only certain people mind, as I repeat- it's not for the faint-hearted. Not one I'd recommend to my Mum, who shares many of my reading tastes. But not this. Here is an excerpt from a review of the book:

Welcome to a chronicle of broken hearts, fervid pursuits, passionate friendships, deranged letter-writing, the allure of the bottle, the singular charms of musicians, the lost song of youth- Add to that a slightly misguided attempt to give real-life friends and ex-lovers a 'right of reply' to the stories they appear in and it's fair to say an extended stint in the Witness Protection Program beckons.
Confessional, voyeuristic, painful, hilarious and heartfelt, You'll Be Sorry When I'm Dead reveals the acerbic wit, unflinching gaze and razor-sharp insight of a writer at the height of her powers-or the unhinged fantasies of a dangerous mind with not enough to do.

I cannot state how much I loved this book. It made me laugh from the inside out. I read excerpts to my 18 yo son who also loved it. He wants to lend it to  his girlfriend. Its that sort of book.

Apart from reading one of the most hilariously bent and funny books I have ever read, I have not been having the best week work wise. One day this week, I came in to my office to find these flowers, which made my day. One of my admin staff had bought them for me, which totally made my week. I bought them home, and they have been making the house smell amazing!
I love random kindness!!!!

And on the charity shop front- I scored these two picnic baskets, which I have re purposed to use to store my wool.

They look so much better than the rather ugly clear plastic storage box I had been using.

Hope your week is good and you're reading great books, and being around nice people.
x

  1. Ooh you've got me so intrigued with that book now, going to have to add it to the ever growing list of books I want to read!

We totally have the same ball of wool! The Patons pink and blue stuff in the top picture? I have 2 balls of that! Got them for a present last year but haven't been able to figure out what I want to make from them.

  2. Love that chunky crocheted bag! That looks like an interesting book....I'll have to look for it at my library. Have you read "The Giver" by Lois Lowry? It's one of those amazing books...

  3. The bag is great, I love the chunkiness of the wool and the colours.

When I went into the library last week they had som orchids on one of the shelves and the whole room smelled lovely, so I can imagine how much you're enjoying them.

I hasten to add, I have not changed the bad habits of not reading, but I was looking for books with nice crafty pictures in them.......one day I will read a book, and when that day comes I'll ask your advice!
